Mail ART and stamping

I'm stalled with my art mom projects. I haven't read or written any more poetry. I'm stalled in the middle of the "poetry tote" project because I am afraid of interfacing and sewing straps for the bag. How silly. My mom gave me samples of several products to try and I am not sure which is which. Mistyfuse, Lutradur, TAP, and iron on interfacing.

Anyway. I am on to other things thanks to several great books I got for my birthday. I don't feel like typing in titles and authors right now but one is on sending mail art and another is stamp and print lab. I am having fun stamping with lots of things and using the stamped papers to make envelopes and cards. I am also keeping track of what I sent to whom.
I'm not adding images because my scanner is in with the sleeping toddler. Some items I sent off with no visual record of what I did. Oh well.

junk or treasure

One on-going project is called
"Off the streets of LA"
As I walk our noisy dirty streets I have been collecting little tid-bits to incorporate into this piece/series
I have bottle caps, washers and other bits of metal, tags from the dry cleaners and valet/ paid parking. I see lots of stuff I don't bother picking up too. I have noticed that the two most popular bottle tops are Bud Light and Corona followed by Jarritos caps as a close third. The most popular type of cigarette box to toss out in my neighbourhood is Marlborough. I've been briging home ones thaat are intack and painting them with gesso and water-soluable oil pastels.

My intention is to capture my life as a mother through poetry.
I am writing most of these poems to share with my children.
Especially this one:

Big bag
zig zag
rick rack
piggy back
pretzel stick
tick tock tick

Butterfly
tell me why
pick me up
coffee cup
cream of wheat
dirty feet

High chair
steam in the air
pots and pans
empty cans
oatmeal box
hands in socks

Bunny's hat
pat the cat
tea is hot
in the pot

Poems from May

Claire
Excited exuberant
jumping about
squealing laughing
spinning round and round
5/15/10

Little Hands Little Feet
Clapping clutching
grabbing snatching
pouring almost empty carton
dribble dribble here,
dribble driblbe there.

Holding hoarding stroking
petting patting
banging blocks together making music
shaking maracas, plucking guitar strings
pushing buttons, buttons, buttons
plucking the buttons off the imac keyboard.
oops.

Painting writing drawing
coloring scribbles as big as a rainbow
making circles, circles, circles... you say "These are eyebrows"
now your fingers are blue and green and red.

Pushing strollers giving doll rides
hugging, give me 5 now--smack
squeezing Bear, Monkey and Dino
touching, touching everything

Open close open close open close
again and again and again.
throwing balls, holding dolls
put them in and take them out
messes messes all about.

Plunge right in with the fingers thinking...
"I must know what soup feels like."
"How would it look all over the tray?"
"Can I use it like finger paint?" "YEP!"

Shredding paper so much fun. Oops
that was sissy's magazine
crinkling plastic library
book covers. Oops again.

Pitter pat
tap tap tap
dancing walking prancing
jump jump jumpity jumping
touching toes
spinning spinning round and round till you
fall down

Bump clack, bump clack, thump clack
you're walking with one shoe on bare floors.
Feeling grass and sand
between your toes
squishing into the mud
ouch the sidewalk is too hot! "Pick me up!"

Noises
Clickety clack clickety clack clickety clack
and you can't come back

plop plop spin a top
clap clap read a map

slam bam wham
tweet squeak skwak
Polly's friends are back

Honk honk
eeoo eeoo eeoo
drip drip drip
need to fix that leaky faucet
rumble rumble
why so many helicopters
over my head tonight?

I've been working on some poetry and wanted to post it even though I haven't done any editing yet.

I wrote this one after writing down 20 words from a novel.

Sweet Birthday
You're wearing
jeans and a dress
whispering and dancing in the rain.

Licking delicious fingertips
a silly smile appears.
Camera captures girls
hugging playfully
reading cards
walking under willows.

I think this lunch is superb.
You talk about eating crackers out of the box.

You found a penny in the dollhouse
and put it in your sleeper...
it encountered your toes.

I wrote this one after writing down 20 words I liked from a poetry book.

Juney
Morning cuddles and some breakfast
tickle giggle happy day
crunchy toast turns soggy
on the highchair tray.

Warm squshed kiwi in stinky lunch box
pack a new one for today
mud between your wiggling toes
ooey gooey time to play.

Glorious music floating skyward
giggling girls jump and sway.

Walking in the cooling twilight
stroller zigging off the sidewalk
bumps across the damp green grass.

Drifting homeward
looking skyward
humming now a lullaby
kisses then a string of babbles
silence follows
dreams fly.

Weekly art goals

I am working through the projects in a book by Shona Cole that I received from my mom for mother's day, The Artistic Mother; A Practical Guide to Fitting Creativity into your life.

I made this sheet to organize my weekly art goals.
